✧ ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit: It was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'And those who commit immorality' [Qur'an 4:15] to the end of the verse. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did that to them. While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting and we were around him—and when revelation came down to him, he turned away from us and we turned away from him, and his face changed and he was distressed by that—when the revelation was lifted from him, he said: 'Take from me.' We said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Allah has made a way for them: the virgin with the virgin, one hundred lashes and banishment for a year; the previously married with the previously married, one hundred lashes then stoning.' Al-Ḥasan said: I do not know whether it is from the ḥadīth or not. He said: 'If they testify that they were found in a blanket but do not testify to intercourse mixed with it, then one hundred lashes and their heads are shaved.'
