✧ I was among those who attended the first ʿAqabah. We were twelve men, and we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the pledge of women — that was before fighting was made obligatory — to not associate anything with Allah, not steal, not commit adultery, not kill our children, not bring a slander we fabricate between our hands and feet, and not disobey him in what is right. If you fulfill, then Paradise is yours; but if you commit any of that, your matter rests with Allah: if He wills, He will punish, and if He wills, He will forgive.
