حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَكِيمُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ

الذَّهَبُ بِالذَّهَبِ، وَالْفِضَّةُ بِالْفِضَّةِ مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ حَتَّى خَصَّ الْمِلْحَ، فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ: إِنَّ هَذَا لَا يَقُولُ شَيْئًا لِعُبَادَةَ، فَقَالَ عُبَادَةُ: إِنِّي وَاللهِ لَا أُبَالِي أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ بِأَرْضٍ يَكُونُ فِيهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ

Translation

✧ Gold for gold, silver for silver, like for like, until he specified salt. Muʿāwiyah said: "This man says nothing against ʿUbādah." ʿUbādah said: "By Allah, I do not care if I am not in a land where Muʿāwiyah is. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that."
