Musnad Ahmad 22699

Translation

✧ He sat with ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit, Abū al-Dardāʾ, and al-Ḥārith b. Muʿāwiyah al-Kindī, and they discussed the ḥadīth of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Abū al-Dardāʾ said to ʿUbādah: O ʿUbādah, the words of the Messenger of God ﷺ in such-and-such a campaign regarding the one-fifth shares. ʿUbādah said: Isḥāq said in his narration: The Messenger of God ﷺ led them in prayer during their campaign facing a camel from the distribution. When he said the salutation, the Messenger of God ﷺ stood, took a hair between his fingertips, and said: This is from your spoils, and I have no share in it except my portion with you, except the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you. So hand over the thread and the needle, and whatever is greater than that or lesser, and do not steal from the spoils, for stealing from the spoils is fire and shame upon its people in this world and the Hereafter. Strive against people for God [blessed and exalted], near and far, and do not care, in God, for the blame of any blamer. Establish God's prescribed punishments in settled life and travel, and strive in God's path, for jihad is a great gate among the gates of Paradise by which God [blessed and exalted] saves from worry and grief.
