حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ
صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْغَدَاةِ، فَثَقُلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقِرَاءَةُ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَرَاكُمْ تَقْرَؤُونَ وَرَاءَ إِمَامِكُمْ. قُلْنَا: نَعَمْ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا لَنَفْعَلُ هَذَا. قَالَ: فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا
Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the morning prayer, and the recitation became difficult for him. When he finished, he said: I see you reciting behind your imam. We said: Yes, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we do that. He said: Do not do so except with the Opening of the Book; for there is no prayer for one who does not recite it.
