حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ كَفَّرَ اللهُ بِهِ خَطَايَايَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنْ قُتِلْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ كَفَّرَ اللهُ بِهِ خَطَايَاكَ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَبِثَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَفَّرَ اللهُ بِهِ خَطَايَايَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنْ قُتِلْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ، كَفَّرَ اللهُ بِهِ خَطَايَاكَ إِلَّا الدَّيْنَ، كَذَلِكَ قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ [عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ]

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the path of Allah, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, will Allah expiate my sins thereby?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If you are killed in the path of Allah, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, Allah will expiate your sins thereby." Then the man remained as long as Allah willed, then said: "O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the path of Allah, will Allah expiate my sins thereby?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If you are killed in the path of Allah, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, Allah will expiate your sins thereby—except the debt. Thus Gabriel ﷺ said to me."
