✧ I stayed with Abu Hashim b. ‘Utbah while he was wounded. Mu‘awiyah entered to visit him, and he wept. Mu‘awiyah said to him: What makes you weep? Is it pain that causes you distress, or is it for the world, for its finest has passed? He said: Not for any of that, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me a covenant that I wish I had followed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Perhaps you will attain wealth that is divided among peoples, but a servant and a mount in the path of Allah, the Exalted, would suffice you from amassing wealth. Yet I found it and amassed it.
