✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me when he wanted to send me with wealth to Abu Sufyan to distribute among Quraysh in Makkah after the conquest. He said: Seek a companion. Then ‘Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri came to me and said: I have heard that you intend to go out and are seeking a companion. I said: Yes. He said: I will be your companion. So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I have found a companion. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said: When you find a companion, inform me. He said: Who? I said: ‘Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri. He said: When you descend into the land of his people, beware of him, for the poet said: Your Bakri brother—do not trust him. So we set out until when I reached al-Abwa’, he said to me: I have a need among my people at Waddan, so wait for me. I said: Go in safety. When he turned away, I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I urged my camel on, then I set off making it hasten until when I was at al-Asafir, there he was confronting me with a group of his kinsmen. I sped up and outran him, and when he saw that I had escaped them, they turned back and he came to me and said: I had a need among my people. I said: Yes. So we went on until we reached Makkah, and I delivered the wealth to Abu Sufyan.
