- Thawbān a freed slave of Rasūl Allāh ﷺ
✧ The daughter of Hubayra entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ wearing gold rings—called fatakh—on her hand. The Messenger of God ﷺ began tapping her hand with a small stick he had, saying: Would it please you if God placed rings of fire on your hand? She went to Fatimah and complained about what the Messenger of God ﷺ had done to her. He [Thawban] said: I went with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he stood behind the door, for when he sought permission he would stand behind the door. He said: Fatimah said to her: Look at this necklace that Abu Hasan gifted to me. He said: She had a gold necklace on her hand. The Prophet ﷺ entered and said: O Fatimah, is it fair that people say 'Fatimah daughter of Muhammad' while on your hand is a necklace of fire? Then he rebuked her severely, then left without sitting. She ordered the necklace to be sold, and with its price she bought a slave and freed him. When the Prophet ﷺ heard of that, he said: God is great, and praise be to God who saved Fatimah from the Fire.
