✧ I met Thawban, the freed servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I said: “Tell me of a deed I can do by which Allah will admit me into Paradise” – or he said: “I said: ‘of the deeds most beloved to Allah’” – and he remained silent. Then I asked him again and he remained silent. Then I asked him a third time, and he said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he said: ‘You must perform many prostrations, for you do not prostrate to Allah with a prostration except that Allah raises you by it a degree and removes from you by it a sin.’”
Notes
machine translationMaʿdān said: Then I met Abū al-Dardāʾ and asked him, and he told me the same as what Thawbān had told me.

machine translationThis is a hadith whose chain is disputed. If it is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), it is taken to refer to intentional vomiting, and it is as if he ﷺ was fasting a voluntary fast. And he said in another place: "Its chain is inconsistent (muḍṭarib), and no proof can be established by it."
