✧ Zayd b. Thābit came out from Marwān's presence around midday. We said: He has not sent for him at this hour except for something he asked him about. So I went to him and asked him, and he said: Yes, he asked us about things I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: May Allah brighten [the face of] a person who hears a hadith from us and memorizes it until he conveys it to someone else. For there may be a bearer of fiqh who is not a faqīh, and a bearer of fiqh may convey it to one who has more understanding than him. Three qualities: the heart of a Muslim never betrays them as long as he lives: sincerity of action for Allah, sincere counsel to those in authority, and adherence to the community. For their supplication encompasses those behind them. And he said: Whoever's concern is the Hereafter, Allah gathers his affairs for him, places his richness in his heart, and the worldly life comes to him despite being reluctant. And whoever's intention is the worldly life, Allah scatters his affairs, places his poverty before his eyes, and nothing of the worldly life comes to him except what has been decreed for him. And he asked us about the middle prayer, and it is Ẓuhr.
