Translation

✧ I was with Abu Dharr when his stipend came out, and with him was a slave girl of his. She began to fulfill his needs—and he said once: to carry out. He said: There remained with him a surplus, I think he said seven. He ordered her to buy with it fulus (small coins). I said: O Abu Dharr, if only you had saved it for a need that befalls you or for a guest who comes to you. He said: My beloved friend enjoined upon me that any gold or silver that is tied up is a live coal upon its owner on the Day of Resurrection until he pours it out completely in the cause of God.
