✧ I saw an old man in Madinah speaking, and I asked about him. They said: This is Ubayy b. Kaʿb. He said: When death came to Adam ﷺ, he said to his sons: O my sons, I desire some of the fruits of Paradise. They went to seek them for him, but the angels met them, carrying his shrouds and his embalming spices, and with them axes, shovels, and baskets. They said to them: O children of Adam, what do you want and what do you seek? — or: What do you want and where are you going? — They said: Our father is ill and desires some of the fruits of Paradise. They said to them: Return, for your father's term has been decreed. So they came back. When Eve saw them, she recognized them and clung to Adam. He said: Away from me! Away! For I have only been afflicted because of you. Leave me alone with the angels of my Lord, Blessed and Exalted. So they took his soul, washed him, shrouded him, embalmed him, dug a grave for him, made a niche in it, prayed over him, then entered his grave and placed him in it, and laid bricks over him. Then they came out of the grave and poured earth over him. Then they said: O children of Adam, this is your practice.
