حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الرَّبَالِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ رُفَيْعٍ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ ﷻ (وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمُ) الْآيَةَ [الأعراف 172] قَالَ
فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ الْآيَةَ. قَالَ: جَمَعَهُمْ فَجَعَلَهُمْ أَرْوَاحًا، ثُمَّ صَوَّرَهُمْ، فَاسْتَنْطَقَهُمْ فَتَكَلَّمُوا، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعَهْدَ وَالْمِيثَاقَ، وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ؟ قَالَ: فَإِنِّي أُشْهِدُ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعَ، وَالْأَرَضِينَ السَّبْعَ، وَأُشْهِدُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَبَاكُمْ آدَمَ [عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ] أَنْ تَقُولُوا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ: لَمْ نَعْلَمْ بِهَذَا، اعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرِي، وَلَا رَبَّ غَيْرِي فَلَا تُشْرِكُوا بِي شَيْئًا، إِنِّي سَأُرْسِلُ إِلَيْكُمْ رُسُلِي يُذَكِّرُونَكُمْ عَهْدِي وَمِيثَاقِي، وَأُنْزِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ كُتُبِي. قَالُوا: شَهِدْنَا بِأَنَّكَ رَبُّنَا وَإِلَهُنَا، لَا رَبَّ لَنَا غَيْرُكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ لَنَا غَيْرُكَ. فَأَقَرُّوا بِذَلِكَ، وَرُفِعَ عَلَيْهِمْ آدَمُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَرَأَى الْغَنِيَّ وَالْفَقِيرَ، وَحَسَنَ الصُّورَةِ، وَدُونَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: رَبِّ لَوْلَا سَوَّيْتَ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ؟! قَالَ: إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أُشْكَرَ. وَرَأَى الْأَنْبِيَاءَ فِيهِمْ مِثْلُ السُّرُجِ، عَلَيْهِمُ النُّورُ، خُصُّوا بِمِيثَاقٍ آخَرَ فِي الرِّسَالَةِ وَالنُّبُوَّةِ، وَهُوَ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ مِيثَاقَهُمْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: " عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ " كَانَ فِي تِلْكَ الْأَرْوَاحِ فَأَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى مَرْيَمَ، فَحَدَّثَ عَنْ أُبَيٍّ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مِنْ فِيهَا

✧ Regarding the saying of God, Mighty and Majestic: And when your Lord took from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants and made them bear witness against themselves [Qurʾān 7:172] — the verse. He said: He gathered them and made them spirits, then formed them, then made them speak, and they spoke. Then He took from them the covenant and the solemn pledge, and made them bear witness against themselves: Am I not your Lord? He said: Indeed, I call upon the seven heavens and the seven earths to witness against you, and I call upon your father Adam ﷺ to witness against you, lest you say on the Day of Resurrection: We were unaware of this. Know that there is no god but Me and no lord but Me, so do not associate anything with Me. I shall send My messengers to you to remind you of My covenant and My solemn pledge, and I shall send down My books upon you. They said: We bear witness that You are our Lord and our God; we have no lord other than You and no god other than You. They affirmed that. Adam was raised above them, looking at them. He saw the rich and the poor, the beautiful in form and those less than that, and said: My Lord, would that You had made Your servants equal! He said: I love to be thanked. He saw the prophets among them like lamps, upon them was light, singled out with another covenant concerning the message and prophethood. That is His saying, Exalted: And when We took from the prophets their covenant [Qurʾān 33:7] up to His saying: Jesus son of Mary. He was among those spirits, so He sent him to Mary. It was narrated from Ubayy that he entered from her mouth.
