حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ وَعَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنْ زِيَادٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ
قُلْتُ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: لَوْ مُتْنَ نِسَاءُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كُلُّهُنَّ، كَانَ يَحِلُّ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ؟ قَالَ: وَمَا يُحَرِّمُ ذَاكَ عَلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ: لِقَوْلِهِ: لا يَحِلُّ لَكَ النِّسَاءُ مِنْ بَعْدُ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا أُحِلَّ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ضَرْبٌ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ

✧ I said to Ubayy b. Kaʿb: “If all the wives of the Prophet ﷺ died, would it be lawful for him to marry?” He said: “What would prohibit that for him?” I said: “Because of His saying: ‘Women are not lawful for you after this.’” He said: “It was only a certain category of women that was made lawful for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”
