✧ While Mūsā ﷺ was among his people reminding them of the days of Allah—and the days of Allah are His favors and His afflictions—he said: “I do not know any man on earth better than me—or more knowledgeable than me!” He said: Allah (Blessed and Exalted) revealed to him: “I know better who is good, or where he is. There is a man on earth more knowledgeable than you.” He said: “O Lord, guide me to him.” It was said to him: “Take along a salted fish,” and he did. Then he went out and met Khiḍr, and what happened between them happened, until the end of it: they passed by the town whose people were stingy, and they went around in the gatherings and asked for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. Then he related to him the story, the story of the ship, and that he scuttled it only so that the king would pass it by and not want it. As for the boy, he was created on the day he was created as a disbeliever; his parents had been affectionate toward him, and had he reached maturity, he would have overwhelmed them with transgression and disbelief. As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city.
