Musnad Ahmad 20993

Translation

✧ A man was at al-Ḥarra with his family and children. A man said to him: I have lost a she-camel of mine; if you find it, hold it for me. He found it, but it fell ill. His wife said to him: Slaughter it. He refused, and it died. His wife said to him: Cut it into strips so we may eat from its meat and fat. He said: Until I consult the Prophet ﷺ. He came to him and told him. He said to him: Do you have wealth that suffices you? He said: No. He said: Then eat it. He said: Its owner came after that and said: Why did you not slaughter it? He said: I was ashamed before you.
