حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ أَكَلَمِنْهُ وَبَعَثَ بِفَضْلِهِ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ فَكَانَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ يَضَعُ أَصَابِعَهُ حَيْثُ يَرَى أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِقَصْعَةٍ فَوَجَدَ فيها رِيحَ ثُومٍ فَلَمْ يَذُقْهَا وَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ فَنَظَرَ فَلَمْ يَرَ فِيهَا أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَذُقْهَا فَأَتَاهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمْ أَرَ فِيهَا أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِكَ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مِنْهَا رِيحَ ثُومٍ قَالَ فَتَبْعَثُ إِلَيَّ بِمَا لَا تَأْكُلُ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي يَأْتِينِي الْمَلَكُ

✧ When the Prophet ﷺ was brought food, he ate from it and sent the leftovers to Abū Ayyūb. Abū Ayyūb would place his fingers where he saw the trace of the fingers of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Once the Prophet ﷺ was brought a bowl in which he detected the smell of garlic, so he did not taste it and sent it to Abū Ayyūb. Abū Ayyūb looked and did not see in it the trace of the Prophet's fingers ﷺ, so he did not taste it. He came to him and said: O Messenger of God, I did not see in it the trace of your fingers? He said: I found in it the smell of garlic. He said: So you send me what you do not eat? He said: The angel comes to me.
