حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ كَثِيرًا كَانَ لَا يَقُومُ مِنْ مُصَلَّاهُ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي فِيهِ الصُّبْحَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ قَامَ وَكَانَ يُطِيلُ قَالَ أَبُو النَّضْرِ كَثِيرَ الصُّمَاتِ فَيَتَحَدَّثُونَ فَيَأْخُذُونَ فِي أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَيَضْحَكُونَ وَيَتَبَسَّمُ

Translation

✧ I asked Jabir b. Samara: 'Did you sit with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said: 'Yes, often. He would not rise from his prayer place where he prayed the Fajr prayer until the sun rose; when it rose, he would get up. And he was — Abu al-Nadr said: often silent — they would talk and delve into matters of the Jahiliyyah, and they would laugh, and he would smile.'
