حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

لَا يَبُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْجُحْرِ، وَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ، فَإِنَّ الْفَأْرَةَ تَأْخُذُ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَتَحْرِقُ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ، وَأَوْكُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ، وَخَمِّرُوا الشَّرَابَ، وَغَلِّقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ بِاللَّيْلِ. قَالُوا لِقَتَادَةَ: مَا يُكْرَهُ مِنَ الْبَوْلِ فِي الْجُحْرِ ؟ قَالَ: يُقَالُ: إِنَّهُ مَسَاكِنُ الْجِنِّ

Translation

✧ None of you should urinate into a hole. And when you sleep, extinguish the lamp, for a mouse may take the wick and burn the household. Tie up the waterskins, cover the drink, and close the doors at night. They asked Qatādah, "What is disliked about urinating into a hole?" He said, "It is said that they are dwellings of the jinn."
