حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ قَالَ
إِنِّي أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا وَأَرُدُّ آخَرِينَ، وَالَّذِينَ أَدَعُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الَّذِي أُعْطِي، أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا لِمَا أَخَافُ مِنْ هَلَعِهِمْ وَجَزَعِهِمْ، وَأَكِلُ أَقْوَامًا إِلَى مَا جَعَلَ اللهُ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مِنَ الْغِنَى وَالْخَيْرِ، مِنْهُمْ عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ قَالَ: قَالَ عَمْرٌو: فَوَاللهِ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي بِكَلِمَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ
Translation

✧ 'I give to some peoples and turn away others, and those whom I leave are dearer to me than those whom I give. I give to some peoples because of what I fear of their impatience and anxiety, and I entrust some peoples to what Allah [Mighty and Majestic is He] has placed in their hearts of contentment and good — among them 'Amr b. Taghlab.' He said: 'Amr said: 'By Allah, I would not love to have in exchange for the word of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ red camels.'
