✧ She was with her father in his dwelling, and he fell ill; when he recovered from that illness, 'Ali b. Abi Talib had arisen in Basra. He ('Ali) came to him in his dwelling until he stood at the door of his room, greeted, and the old man returned the greeting. 'Ali said to him: 'How are you, O Abu Muslim?' He said: 'Fine.' 'Ali said: 'Will you not come out with me against these people and help me?' He said: 'Yes, if you accept what I give you.' 'Ali said: 'And what is that?' The old man said: 'O slave girl, bring me my sword.' She brought out to him a scabbard and placed it in his lap. He drew from it a length, then raised his head to 'Ali ؓ and said: 'My close friend ﷺ, your cousin, enjoined me that when there is fitnah among the Muslims, I should take a sword of wood. So this is my sword; if you wish, I will go out with it alongside you.' 'Ali ؓ said: 'We have no need of you, nor of your sword.' So he returned from the door of the room and did not enter.
