✧ His grandfather Hanifah said to Hidhyam: "Gather my sons for me, for I want to make a will." So he gathered them, and he said: "The first thing I bequeath is that this orphan of mine in my care is to have one hundred of the camels that we used to call in the pre-Islamic era 'al-Mutayyabah'." Hidhyam said: "O father, I heard your sons saying: 'We only confirm this before our father, but when he dies we will take it back.'" He said: "Then between me and you is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Hidhyam said: "We are content." So Hidhyam, Hanifah, and Hanzalah went up, and with them was a boy who was riding behind Hidhyam. When they came to the Prophet ﷺ, they greeted him. The Prophet ﷺ said: "What brought you, O Abu Hidhyam?" He said: "This," and he struck his hand on Hidhyam's thigh, and said: "I feared that old age or death might surprise me, so I wanted to make a will. I said: 'The first thing I bequeath is that this orphan of mine in my care is to have one hundred camels, which we used to call in the pre-Islamic era 'al-Mutayyabah'."" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry until we saw anger in his face, and he was sitting, and he knelt on his knees and said: "No, no, no. Charity is five, or else ten, or else fifteen, or else twenty, or else twenty-five, or else thirty, or else thirty-five, and if they are many [if they are many], then forty." He said: "They bid him farewell, and with the orphan was a stick, and he was striking a camel. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'How great is this staff of an orphan!'" Hanzalah said: "He brought me close to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'I have sons with beards and younger than that, and this is the youngest of them, so supplicate to Allah for him.' So he wiped his head and said: 'May Allah bless you,' or 'May he be blessed.'" Dhayyal said: "I saw Hanzalah when a person with a swollen face or an animal with a swollen udder was brought to him, and he would spit on his hands and say: 'In the name of Allah,' and place his hand on its head and say: 'On the place of the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,' and wipe it over it." And Dhayyal said: "The swelling would go away."
