✧ I asked Ibn Abbas about selling wine. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ had a friend from Thaqif—or from Daws—who met him in Makkah in the year of the conquest with a skin of wine, intending to give it to him as a gift. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, “O Abu so-and-so, do you not know that God has forbidden it?” The man turned to his servant and said, “Go and sell it.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said, “O Abu so-and-so, what did you order him to do?” He said, “I ordered him to sell it.” He said, “The One who forbade drinking it also forbade selling it.” So he ordered that it be poured out in al-Batha.
