حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَمُرَةَ بْنَ جُنْدُبٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّهُ لَيَمْنَعُنِي أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ بِكَثِيرٍ مِمَّا كُنْتُ
أَسْمَعُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ هَاهُنَا مَنْ هُوَ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّي وَكُنْتُ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ غُلَامًا وَإِنِّي كُنْتُ لَأَحْفَظُ مَا أَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ صَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَصَلَّى عَلَى أُمِّ كَعْبٍ مَاتَتْ وَهِيَ نُفَسَاءُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلصَّلَاةِ عَلَيْهَا وَسَطَهَا

✧ I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that here is one older than me—and I was a boy that night, and indeed I used to memorize what I heard from him. I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he prayed over Umm Kaʿb who died while in postpartum bleeding. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for the prayer over her in the middle [of the mosque].
