✧ "Accept the good news, O Banu Tamim." He said: They said: "You have given us good news, so give us [something]." He said: "Accept the good news, O people of Yemen." He said: We said: "We have accepted, so tell us about the beginning of this matter, how was it?" He said: "Allah, blessed and exalted be He, was before everything, and His Throne was upon the water, and He wrote in the Tablet the remembrance of everything." He said: "And a comer came to me and said: 'O 'Imran, your she-camel has broken loose from her tether.'" He said: "So I went out, and behold, the mirage was cutting off between me and her." He said: "So I went out in her tracks, and I do not know what happened after me."

machine translationAmong the authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadiths is the hadith of ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn: "Allah was, and there was nothing other than Him."
in مسند أحمد, p. 20128 - Taḥāwī
machine translationAl-Aʿmash differed regarding which of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ this hadith goes back to. Al-Aʿmash mentioned that it was ʿImrān b. al-Ḥuṣayn, while al-Masʿūdī mentioned that it was Buraydah b. al-Ḥuṣayb. The correct view in our opinion is what al-Aʿmash said about it. What indicates this is that al-Thawrī narrated it from Jāmiʿ b. Shaddād, agreeing with al-Aʿmash and opposing al-Masʿūdī, even though he fell short of some of its text that is in their two narrations.
