حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةُ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ الْقَرْنُ الَّذِي بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ: الَّذِينَ بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَنْشَأُ قَوْمٌ يَنْذِرُونَ وَلَا يُوفُونَ، وَيَخُونُونَ وَلَا يُؤْتَمَنُونَ، وَيَشْهَدُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُونَ، وَيَفْشُو فِيهِمُ السِّمَنُ

Translation

✧ The best of this Ummah is the generation in which I was sent—'Abd al-Samad said: 'the ones among whom I was sent'—then those who follow them, then a people will arise who make vows but do not fulfill them, who betray and are not trusted, who give testimony but are not asked to testify, and obesity spreads among them.
