✧ Abu Barzah was at al-Ahwaz on the bank of a river, and he had put the reins in his hand and was praying. His mount began to retreat, and he moved backward with it. A man from the Khawarij began to say: 'O Allah, disgrace this old man, how can he pray!' He said: When he finished praying, he said: 'I heard your words. I campaigned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ six, or seven, or eight times, and I witnessed his leniency and his ease. So retreating with my mount was easier for me than leaving it, for it would bolt to its accustomed place and that would be hard on me.' And Abu Barzah prayed 'Asr as two rak'ahs.
