✧ He was with the Prophet ﷺ in a garden, and in the Prophet’s ﷺ hand was a stick with which he was striking between the water and the mud. A man came asking permission to enter, so he said: 'Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise.' Behold, it was Abū Bakr ؓ. So I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then a man came asking permission to enter, so he said: 'Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise.' Behold, it was ʿUmar ؓ. So I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then a man came asking permission to enter, so he said: 'Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, upon a trial that will befall him, or a trial that will be.' Behold, it was ʿUthmān ؓ. So I opened for him, gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and informed him. He said: 'God is the one whose help is sought.'
