✧ Abu Musa sought permission to enter upon Umar ؓ. He said: once, twice, three times, then Abu Musa turned back. Umar ؓ said to him: ‘You must bring proof for this, or I will do such-and-such.’ He said: as if he was saying, ‘I will make you an example throughout the regions.’ He said: Abu Musa went to a gathering in which the Ansar were present and mentioned that to them. He said: ‘Do you not know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “When one of you seeks permission three times and is not granted it, let him return”?’ They said: ‘Yes, but none will stand with you except the youngest of us.’ He said: Abu Sa'id al-Khudri stood and went to Umar ؓ and said: ‘This is Abu Sa'id.’ So he let him go.
