✧ When God, Mighty and Majestic, defeated Hawāzin at Ḥunayn, the Messenger of God ﷺ put Abū ʿĀmir al-Ashʿarī in command of the cavalry of the pursuit. He pursued, and I was among those who pursued them. His horse sped with him, and he caught up with Ibn Durayd b. al-Ṣimmah. He killed Abū ʿĀmir and took the banner. I charged at Ibn Durayd and killed him, took the banner, and returned with the people. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw me carrying the banner, he said: 'O Abū Mūsā, has Abū ʿĀmir been killed?' He said: I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He [Abū Mūsā] said: I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ raise his hands, supplicating, saying: 'O God, Your servant ʿUbayd, Abū ʿĀmir, make him among the most numerous on the Day of Resurrection.'
