✧ We prayed Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then we said: If only we waited until we prayed 'Isha' with him. So we waited, and he came out to us and said: Have you been here all this time? We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. We said: We will pray 'Isha' with you. He said: You have done well—or you have been correct. Then he raised his head to the sky—and he often raised his head to the sky—and said: The stars are a safeguard for the sky; when the stars depart, there comes to the sky what it is promised. And I am a safeguard for my Companions; when I depart, there comes to my Companions what they are promised. And my Companions are a safeguard for my ummah; when my Companions depart, there comes to my ummah what it is promised.

Sūqah, from Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah, from his father, from Abū Mūsā. Others narrate it from Ḥusayn al-Juʿfī, from Mujammiʿ b. Yaḥyā al-Anṣārī, from Saʿīd b. Abī Burdah, from his father, from Abū Mūsā, and this is the correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version.
