✧ Thursday, and what a Thursday it was! Then he wept until his tears—or he said once: his tears—moistened the pebbles. We said: 'O Abu al-Abbas, what was Thursday?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah's ﷺ illness intensified, and he said: "Bring me something so I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray." But they disputed, and disputing is not proper in the presence of a Prophet. They said: "What is the matter with him? Is he delirious?" Sufyan said: meaning, "Ask him for clarification." They went to repeat it to him, but he said: "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to." And he commanded three things—or Sufyan said once: he bequeathed three things—: "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and honor the delegations as I used to honor them." Sa'id was silent about the third, so I do not know whether he was silent about it deliberately, or once he said: he forgot it? And Sufyan said once: either he omitted it, or he forgot it.'
