Chain of narrators
  1. Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm
  2. Abū Ḥayyān al-Taymī
  3. Yazīd b. Ḥayyān al-Taymī

✧ I set out with Husayn b. Sabra and Umar b. Muslim to Zayd b. Arqam. When we sat with him, Husayn said to him: You have met, O Zayd, abundant good. You saw the Messenger of God ﷺ, heard his hadith, campaigned with him, and prayed with him. You have met, O Zayd, abundant good. Narrate to us, O Zayd, what you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: O son of my brother, by God, my age has grown old, my time has passed, and I have forgotten some of what I used to retain from the Messenger of God ﷺ. So whatever I narrate to you, accept it, and whatever I do not, do not burden me with it. Then he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ stood one day as a preacher among us at a water called Khumm, between Makkah and Madinah. He praised God Almighty, extolled Him, admonished, and reminded. Then he said: Now then, O people, I am only a human being. It is near that the messenger of my Lord (Mighty and Majestic) will come to me and I will respond. I am leaving among you two weighty things. The first of them is the Book of God (Mighty and Majestic), in which is guidance and light. So take hold of the Book of God Almighty and cling to it. He urged upon the Book of God and encouraged it. He said: And my household (ahl bayti). I remind you of God concerning my household. I remind you of God concerning my household. I remind you of God concerning my household. Husayn said to him: Who are his household, O Zayd? Are not his wives from his household? He said: His wives are from his household, but his household are those who are forbidden from receiving charity after him. He said: Who are they? He said: They are the family of Ali, the family of Aqil, the family of Jafar, and the family of Abbas. He said: Are all of these forbidden from charity? He said: Yes.
