✧ ʿAbd Allah b. Abī Awfā wrote to ʿUbayd Allah when he wanted to raid the Ḥarūriyyah. I said to his scribe, who was a friend of mine: Copy it for me, and he did: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for well-being. But when you meet them, be patient, and know that Paradise is under the shades of the swords.'" He said: He would wait until the sun declined, then advance against his enemy, and then say: "O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the confederates—defeat them and grant us victory over them."
