✧ I went on the expedition of Tabūk with the Prophet ﷺ. When he set out, he traveled by night, and I walked close to him. Drowsiness overcame me, and I kept waking up; my mount drew near to his mount, and its closeness alarmed me, fearing that I might strike his foot in the stirrup. So I would hold my mount back, until sleep overcame me halfway through the night, and my mount collided with his mount while the Prophet's ﷺ foot was in the stirrup, and it struck his foot. I only woke up at his saying: "Hass!" So I raised my head and said, "Ask forgiveness for me, O Messenger of God." He said, "Ask." He then began asking me about those who had stayed behind from Banū Ghifār, and I told him. Then he asked me, "What happened to the reddish, tall, short-haired group—or he said: the short ones—ʿAbd al-Razzāq is unsure—who have livestock at Shaẓiyyat Sharkh?" I thought of them among Banū Ghifār, but I did not remember them until I remembered a group from Aslam. I said, "O Messenger of God, those are a group from Aslam, and they have stayed behind." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "What prevents one of those, when he stays behind, from carrying on one of his camels an active man in the way of God? For the dearest of my people to me that they should stay behind are the Emigrants from Quraysh, the Anṣār, Ghifār, and Aslam."
