حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ يَعْنِي الْقَطَّانَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْأُسَيِّدِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا عِنْدَكَ كُنَّا، فَإِذَا فَارَقْنَاكَ كُنَّا عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَكُونُونَ عَلَى الْحَالِ الَّتِي تَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهَا عِنْدِي لَصَافَحَتْكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ، وَلَأَظَلَّتْكُمْ بِأَجْنِحَتِهَا

✧ I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, when we are with you we are [in one state], but when we part from you we are in a different state.' He said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you were to remain in the state you are in when you are with me, the angels would shake hands with you and would shade you with their wings.'
