حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ وَائِلَ بْنَ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ
قُلْتُ: لَأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ يُصَلِّي، فَقَامَ فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى حَاذَتَا أُذُنَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ شِمَالَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: حِينَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى حَاذَتَا بِأُذُنَيْهِ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ حِذَاءَ أُذُنَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ فَافْتَرَشَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَى، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُسْرَى - فَخِذِهِ فِي صِفَةِ عَاصِمٍ - ثُمَّ وَضَعَ حَدَّ مِرْفَقِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى، وَقَبَضَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَحَلَّقَ حَلْقَةً، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ يَقُولُ: هَكَذَا، وَأَشَارَ زُهَيْرٌ بِسَبَّابَتِهِ الْأُولَى، وَقَبَضَ إِصْبُعَيْنِ، وَحَلَّقَ الْإِبْهَامَ عَلَى السَّبَّابَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ: قَالَ عَاصِمٌ: وَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِهِ أَنَّ وَائِلًا قَالَ: أَتَيْتُهُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى، وَعَلَى النَّاسِ ثِيَابٌ فِيهَا الْبَرَانِسُ وَفِيهَا الْأَكْسِيَةُ، فَرَأَيْتُهُمْ يَقُولُونَ هَكَذَا تَحْتَ الثِّيَابِ
Translation

✧ I said, 'I will surely watch the Messenger of God ﷺ and see how he prays.' He stood and raised his hands until they were level with his ears. Then he took his left hand with his right. Then when he intended to bow, he raised his hands until they were level with his ears. Then he placed his hands on his knees. Then he raised his head and raised his hands in the same way. Then he prostrated and placed his hands level with his ears. Then he sat and spread his left leg, placing his left palm on his left knee—his thigh, according to Asim's description. Then he placed the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh, closed three fingers, and formed a circle. Then I saw him say, 'Like this,' and Zuhayr pointed with his index finger, closed two fingers, and formed a circle with the thumb on the middle finger. Zuhayr said: Asim said: Abdul-Jabbar narrated to me from some of his family that Wail said: I came to him another time, while the people were wearing garments with hoods and cloaks, and I saw them doing like this under the clothes.
