حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ أَبِي مُوسَى يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ
كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا أَمَاتَنَا، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ. قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا الْمَعْنَى، وَإِذَا نَامَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَبِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ
Translation

✧ When he woke up, he would say: “Praise be to God who brought us to life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.” Shuʿbah said: “This or the like in meaning.” And when he went to sleep, he would say: “O God, in Your name I live and in Your name I die.”
