✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ put ʿAbd Allāh b. Jubayr in command of the archers—and they were fifty men—on the day of Uḥud, and he said: “If you see the enemy and you see birds snatching us away, do not leave your post.” When they saw the spoils, they said: “The spoils, the spoils!” ʿAbd Allāh said: “Did the Messenger of God ﷺ not say: ‘Do not leave your post’?” Another said: Then it was revealed: “And you disobeyed after He had shown you what you love” [Q 3:152]—meaning: you disobeyed the Messenger after He had shown you the spoils and the rout of the enemy.
