✧ Ibn Mas'ud was asked about a man who married a woman and then died before consummating the marriage or assigning her a dower. He was asked about it for a month and did not say anything about it. Then they asked him and he said, 'I will state my opinion about it. If it is wrong, it is from me and from Satan; if it is right, it is from God. She is entitled to a dower like that of one of her peers, and she inherits, and she must observe the waiting period.' A man from Ashja' stood up and said, 'I bear witness that you have judged in it with the same judgment as the Messenger of God ﷺ in the case of Barwa' bint Washiq.' He said, 'Bring your witnesses.' So al-Jarrah and Abu Sinan, two men of Ashja', testified for him.
