✧ al-Nu'man bin Bashir on the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ وَزَكَرِيَّا عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ وَفِطْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ

أَنَّ بَشِيرًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْحَلَ النُّعْمَانَ نُحْلًا قَالَ: فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ وَلَدٍ سِوَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: فَكُلَّهُمْ أَعْطَيْتَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ ؟ قَالَ: لَا. قَالَ: فِطْرٌ. فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: هَكَذَا، أَيْ سَوِّ بَيْنَهُمْ

✧ Bashir came to the Prophet ﷺ wanting to give al-Nu'man a gift. He said: The Prophet ﷺ said: Do you have any child other than him? He said: Yes. He said: Have you given all of them the like of what you have given him? He said: No. He said: It is a breaking (of ties). The Prophet ﷺ said to him: Thus — that is, treat them equally.
