حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أَرْضِي أَرْضُ صَيْدٍ، قَالَ: إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ، فَكُلْ مَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ كَلْبُكَ، وَإِنْ قَتَلَ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ، فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَخَالَطَتْهُ أَكْلُبٌ لَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَيْهَا فَلَا تَأْكُلْ، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَهُ.

✧ I said: “O Messenger of God, my land is a land of hunting.” He said: “When you send your dog and you name God, then eat whatever your dog holds for you, even if it kills. But if it eats from it, then do not eat, for it only held it for itself. And when you send your dog and other dogs that you have not named God over mix with it, then do not eat, for you do not know which of them killed it.”
