Musnad Ahmad 18172

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lagged behind and relieved himself. He said: Do you have water for purification? He said: I followed him with a vessel containing water. He washed his palms and face, then tried to uncover his forearms, but the sleeves of the jubba were tight, so he took his hands out from under the jubba and washed his forearms. Then he wiped over his turban and his leather socks, and he mounted, and I mounted my riding animal. We reached the people when 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf had already led them in one rak'a. When he sensed the Prophet ﷺ, he started to step back, but the Prophet gestured to him to complete the prayer and said: You have done well; do likewise.
