✧ I sat with Ka'b b. Ujra while he was in the mosque, and I asked him about this verse: 'then a ransom of fasting or charity or sacrifice.' He said: Ka'b said: It was revealed concerning me. I had an ailment in my head, and I was carried to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while lice were falling on my face. He said: 'I did not think that hardship had reached you to the extent I see. Can you find a sheep?' I said: 'No.' Then this verse was revealed: 'then a ransom of fasting or charity or sacrifice.' He said: 'Fasting three days, or feeding six poor persons, half a sa' each of food for each poor person.' He said: It was revealed specifically concerning me, but it is general for you all.
