✧ When ʿUthmān was killed, preachers rose in Jerusalem. The last of them to rise was a man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ called Murrah b. Kaʿb, who said: Were it not for a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I would not have stood up. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a tribulation — and I think he said: he brought it near, Ismāʿīl was uncertain — and a veiled man passed by, so he said: “This man and his companions will be upon the truth on that day.” I went and took hold of his shoulder, and turned his face toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: This one? He said: “Yes.” He said: It was ʿUthmān.
