✧ Uthman b. Abi al-Aas narrates from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَ

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، فَأَمَرَ لِي بِلَبَنِ لِقْحَةٍ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: « الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللهِ، كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ، وَصِيَامٌ حَسَنٌ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ».

✧ I entered upon Uthman b. Abi al-‘As, and he ordered for me the milk of a milch-camel. I said: I am fasting. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Fasting is a shield from the punishment of Allah, like the shield of any of you in battle. And a good fast is three days of every month.”
