✧ Uthman b. Abi al-Aas narrates from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ طَلْحَةَ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ حَدَّثَهُ
أَنَّ [رَسُولَ اللهِ] ﷺ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَؤُمَّ قَوْمَهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قَالَ: « مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَلْيُخَفِّفْ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَالْمَرِيضَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَحْدَهُ، فَلْيُصَلِّ كَيْفَ شَاءَ ».

✧ That [the Messenger of God] ﷺ commanded him to lead his people in prayer. He said: Then he said: “Whoever leads a people in prayer should make it brief, for among them are the weak, the elderly, the sick, and the one with a need. But when he prays alone, he may pray however he wishes.”
