✧ “While I was at the Kaaba, between sleeping and waking, I heard a speaker saying: one of the three,” and he mentioned the hadith. He said: “Then the Frequented House was raised for us. Seventy thousand angels enter it every day, and when they leave it, they never return to it, as their last time. He said: Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary was raised to me. Its leaves were like the ears of elephants,” and he mentioned the hadith. He said: “I said: I have gone back and forth to my Lord [Mighty and Majestic] until I was ashamed. No, but I accept and submit. He said: When I passed him, it was proclaimed to me: I have lightened it for My servants, enacted My obligations, and made for every good deed ten times its like.”

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it from Anas; ʿUqayl and Yūnus related it from him. There is disagreement about Yūnus: Abū Ḍamrah said, from Yūnus, from Abū, and I think that "Dharr" dropped out for him, so he made it from Ubayy b. Kaʿb and was mistaken in it. Qatādah also narrated this hadith from Anas b. Mālik, from Mālik b. Ṣaʿṣaʿah, and he brought it in full. Shuʿbah narrated part of it from Qatādah, from Anas, from the Prophet ﷺ, the story of the two rivers; Ibrāhīm b. Ṭahmān related it from Shuʿbah. It seems that all the accounts are sound, because their narrators are reliable (athbāt).

machine translationI asked my father about a hadith that Yūnus narrated from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, from Abū Dharr, from the Prophet ﷺ, concerning the Ascension (al-miʿrāj), and that Qatādah narrated from Anas, from Mālik b. Ṣaʿṣaʿah, from the Prophet ﷺ. It was said to my father: which of the two is closer? He said: I do not set anyone of the people of his era level with al-Zuhrī. Then he said: I hope that both are sound. Another time he said: the hadith of al-Zuhrī is more sound. I said to my father: they differed regarding al-Zuhrī. He said: Yes, some of them say, from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, from Ubayy b. Kaʿb, but al-Zuhrī from Anas from Abū Dharr is more sound.
