✧ A man from Kindah called Imru' al-Qays b. 'Abis disputed with a man from Hadramawt before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ over some land. He ruled that the Hadrami must produce evidence, but he had no evidence. Then he ruled that Imru' al-Qays should take an oath. The Hadrami said: 'If you let him take the oath, O Messenger of Allah, by Allah—or by the Lord of the Ka'bah—my land is gone.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever swears a false oath to seize thereby the property of his brother will meet Allah while He is angry with him.' Raja' said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: 'Indeed, those who purchase a small gain with the covenant of Allah and their oaths' (Quran 3:77). Imru' al-Qays said: 'What is for the one who gives it up, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Paradise.' He said: 'Bear witness that I have given it all up to him.'
